Termomecanica, which is one of Brazil’s largest private industrial companies, is a leader in the transforming non-ferrous metals sector – copper and its alloys - into semi-processed and finished products such as bars, rods, profiles, wire, laminates, pipes for refrigeration and industrial use, water and gas pipes, TM 23 bronze bearings and jackets, copper bars for use in the steel industry and for energy supply, and TM 620 bronze bearings and dowels.
With a high level of capital and shareholders’ equity valued at 800 million dollars, the company continues to grow steadily, thanks to continuing modernization and expansion programs, in line with its traditional strategy of reinvesting profits.
Termomecanica was incorporated in 1942, with a capital of 200 dollars, by Eng. Salvador Arena. The first machines, imported from the United States, boosted growth and, shortly afterwards, the small manufacturer of bread ovens moved from a modest warehouse rented in Mooca to another, larger one in Ipiranga.
Its vocation for metalworking, however, soon took precedence, and the now prosperous foundry for copper and its alloys moved to its own headquarters, where it still operates, on a large piece of land consisting of several small farms purchased in the hitherto unexploited area of São Bernardo do Campo.
In 1957, the company had 50 employees, and all its activities were concentrated in the new premises. The line of sheets and rods was expanded, and the company started to concentrate on producing individual parts which had until then been imported.
In the 1960s, Termomecanica introduced its own management model, acknowledging the potential of its workers and establishing a wage policy which awarded bonuses and prizes for productivity, at a time when there was no legislation to this effect.
Fast growth led to the expansion of the company, and in 1985 a second plant was opened, also in São Bernardo do Campo.
Acquired the distribution center in São Bernardo do Campo and Distribution Center in Joinville-SC
It was acquired plants in Chile and Argentina to the TM group.
In 2014, Termomecanica celebrated 72 years of successful operations. Currently the company has two manufacturing plants and two distribution centers in Brazil, a production unit in Chile and another one in Argentina, giving a total of 211.447 thousand m² of built area, housing about two thousand employees.
Constant investment in new technology and the purchase of the latest-generation equipment have contributed to upgrading products and processes, with an increase in production and a larger international market share.
